Morbe Karanjade Expressway Route Map, Cost, DPR, Status & Latest Construction Updates (2026)

The project spans 14 km, which includes constructing a 4 km greenfield section from Morbe and widening 10 km of existing road through the Taloja MIDC industrial corridor.

The project is executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which took over and revised the route to Kalamboli to bypass land acquisition delays in MSRDC's proposed 21 km Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor stretch.

The estimated cost of the NHAI-led 14 km link road is approximately ₹100 Crore, making it a highly cost-effective connection.

The expected completion is aligned with the completion of the Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway's final Maharashtra sections.

The Morbe Karanjade Expressway refers to the planned Morbe-to-Karanjade section associated with the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway spur in Raigad district, Maharashtra. The earlier NHAI alignment proposal identified it as Package XVIII, a greenfield section intended to continue the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway from Morbe towards Panvel and Karanjade. However, the latest connectivity plan has shifted toward a separate Morbe-Kalamboli link via Taloja.

The earlier Morbe-Karanjade route was planned from the end of Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway Spur Package XVII near Morbe in Raigad district towards Karanjade/Panvel. The proposed alignment passed through the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area and was intended to connect the expressway network with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and JNPA-side road network.

The originally proposed Morbe-Karanjade extension is no longer the latest route being pursued for the expressway's southern connectivity. In the latest plan, NHAI has approved a shorter 14-km Morbe-Kalamboli link via Taloja. This route is intended to connect the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway at Morbe with Kalamboli and onward connectivity to JNPA, Atal Setu and Navi Mumbai International Airport.

The earlier Morbe-Karanjade alignment map shows a greenfield corridor beginning at the end of Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway Spur Package XVII near Morbe and extending towards Panvel/Karanjade. The preferred Package XVIII alignment identified in the 2025 NHAI alignment study was approximately 9.464 km long. The newer Morbe-Kalamboli plan follows a different 14-km connectivity route through the Taloja area.

The preferred alignment proposed for Morbe-Karanjade Package XVIII was a greenfield 9.464-km section beginning at chainage 79.783 of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway spur and ending at approximately chainage 89.247. The proposed alignment was in Raigad district and passed through the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area. The 2025 NHAI study recommended Option 2 as the preferred alignment.

The preferred Morbe-Karanjade Package XVIII alignment studied by NHAI was 9.464 km long. Earlier alignment options ranged from approximately 9.413 km to 10.793 km, but Option 2 at 9.464 km was recommended. This should not be confused with the newer 14-km Morbe-Kalamboli connector.

The 2025 NHAI alignment study estimated the total capital cost of the preferred 9.464-km Morbe-Karanjade Package XVIII option at approximately ₹5,144.65 crore, including land acquisition and other project costs. This was an alignment-stage estimate, not a current sanctioned construction cost. A separate ₹100-crore estimate has been reported for the newer 14-km Morbe-Kalamboli link.

The preferred Morbe-Karanjade Package XVIII proposal was planned as a greenfield eight-lane development of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway spur. The preferred 9.464-km option included approximately 3.16 km of elevated structures and two tunnels with a combined length of about 1.615 km, along with underpasses, bridges and an interchange.

The Morbe-Karanjade Package XVIII section should not currently be described as an under-construction expressway. The 2025 NHAI material concerned alignment approval and project planning. Subsequent developments shifted the immediate connectivity proposal toward a separate 14-km Morbe-Kalamboli link via Taloja, which was approved to provide a more direct connection from Morbe to Kalamboli.

The Morbe-Karanjade section remains associated with the earlier proposed extension of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway towards Karanjade, but it is not the latest connectivity project being advanced from Morbe. The current plan is an NHAI 14-km Morbe-Kalamboli link via Taloja. Therefore, the Morbe-Karanjade project should be treated as an earlier/planned alignment rather than a currently confirmed construction project.

The major recent development is the approval of a 14-km Morbe-Kalamboli link by NHAI and the Maharashtra authorities. The new connector is intended to link the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway at Morbe with Kalamboli through Taloja and improve access towards JNPA, Atal Setu and Navi Mumbai International Airport. It replaces the need to depend on the previously planned longer Morbe-Karanjade connection for this immediate expressway connectivity.

The Morbe-Kalamboli link is a separate 14-km connectivity project planned by NHAI to connect the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway near Morbe with Kalamboli through Taloja. Reports indicate that about 4 km requires new construction while approximately 10 km of existing road through the Taloja MIDC area is planned to be widened.

The change is linked to delays affecting the wider Virar-Alibaug and Morbe-Karanjade connectivity plans. NHAI and the state opted for a shorter Morbe-Kalamboli connection to provide faster freight connectivity towards JNPA and the Navi Mumbai region without waiting for the delayed Morbe-Karanjade extension.

The planned connectivity from Morbe is intended to link the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway with the wider Navi Mumbai transport network. The newer Morbe-Kalamboli link is specifically intended to improve connections towards Kalamboli, JNPA, Atal Setu and Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Morbe is the southern end of the Maharashtra section of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway spur currently being developed by NHAI. The Morbe-Karanjade proposal was intended to continue this expressway towards Panvel and Karanjade, while the newer plan provides a separate connection from Morbe towards Kalamboli.
