The Electronic City Elevated Expressway is a nearly 10 km elevated highway on NH-44 (formerly NH-7) in Bengaluru. It connects Central Silk Board Junction with Electronic City along the Hosur Road corridor and provides an elevated alternative to the signal-heavy road below.
The Electronic City Elevated Expressway project was developed as a BOT (Toll) highway project to improve traffic movement between Central Silk Board and Electronic City. The elevated section was built by Bangalore Elevated Tollway Private Limited (BETPL) and was opened to traffic in January 2010.
The Electronic City Elevated Expressway route runs along NH-44/Hosur Road from the Central Silk Board Junction area to Electronic City. The NHAI toll record identifies the tollable elevated section as the Silk Board Junction–Electronic City stretch, with a tollable length of 9.994 km.
The elevated expressway starts at the Central Silk Board Junction area and ends at Electronic City in Bengaluru. It forms part of the Bengaluru–Hosur highway corridor, with the road continuing south from Electronic City toward Attibele and the Karnataka–Tamil Nadu border.
The Electronic City Elevated Expressway map shows the approximately 10 km elevated corridor running along Hosur Road between Central Silk Board and Electronic City. It is separate from the ground-level carriageways and connects directly into the wider NH-44 Bengaluru–Hosur corridor.
The Electronic City Elevated Expressway is approximately 10 km long. NHAI's toll information records the tollable length of the elevated Silk Board Junction–Electronic City section as 9.994 km.
The alignment follows the NH-44/Hosur Road corridor between Central Silk Board Junction and Electronic City. The elevated structure was built above the existing road corridor so that through traffic can bypass many of the ground-level junctions and signals along this busy Bengaluru–Hosur route.
NHAI's toll information records a capital cost of ₹974.70 crore for the elevated Electronic City section. Contemporary project reporting commonly places the project cost at around ₹1,000 crore, so these figures should not be treated as separate projects.
The Electronic City Elevated Expressway was developed under a BOT (Toll) arrangement by Bangalore Elevated Tollway Private Limited (BETPL), a special-purpose company formed for the project. NHAI's toll records identify Bangalore Elevated Tollway Private Limited as the concessionaire/OMT contractor.
Construction of the Electronic City Elevated Expressway began in the mid-2000s under the BOT concession. The elevated road was completed and opened to traffic in January 2010, after which it became an important high-capacity connection between Silk Board and Electronic City.
The Electronic City Elevated Expressway is an operational road. However, its concession arrangement changed in September 2026: the original concession agreement expired on 10 September 2026. NHAI and the Union government have been deciding how toll collection, operation and maintenance should be handled after the concession expiry.
The tariff applicable before the concession expiry included ₹65 for a single journey by a car, jeep or van, ₹100 for a multiple-journey ticket and ₹1,960 for a monthly pass. Two-wheelers were charged ₹25 for a single journey and ₹40 for multiple journeys. These rates were introduced from 1 July 2026. After the BETPL concession expired on 10 September 2026, the future toll-collection arrangement became subject to NHAI and government decisions, so the ₹65 rate should not be presented as a permanently fixed future tariff.
The BETPL concession ended on 10 September 2026, but toll collection did not simply cease with the expiry. Recent reports indicate that NHAI has continued collecting the existing toll while the post-concession operation and maintenance arrangement is being worked out. Therefore, the post-10 September 2026 toll should be described as subject to the new NHAI-operated arrangement rather than as the former BETPL concession continuing unchanged.
The major latest development is the expiry of the original BETPL concession on 10 September 2026. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and NHAI have been considering the future arrangement for toll collection and maintenance of the approximately 10 km elevated corridor. Recent reporting also highlighted the need for continued maintenance of the elevated structure, including drainage and waterlogging-related issues.
The Electronic City Elevated Expressway was built to provide a faster high-capacity route between Central Silk Board and Electronic City, where ground-level Hosur Road traffic was heavily affected by signals and junction congestion. By carrying through traffic on an elevated structure, the project was designed to improve travel speeds and reduce delays along the Bengaluru–Hosur corridor.
Yes. 'Electronic City Expressway', 'Electronic City Elevated Expressway' and 'Electronics City Elevated Expressway' are commonly used names for the elevated highway connecting the Central Silk Board area with Electronic City. The official NHAI toll records refer to the facility as the elevated section between Silk Board Junction and Electronic City.
