Corridor Alignment & Engineering Features
Package-wise Construction Update
According to the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road Construction Update, the project spans an estimated total length of approximately 340 km. It consists of a Northern Corridor (~164 km) and a Southern Corridor (~182 km) connecting satellite cities such as Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Yadagirigutta, Bhongir, Choutuppal, Ibrahimpatnam, Shadnagar, and Chevella. For investors tracking the Sangareddy Regional Ring Road alignment, tendering for portions of the Northern Corridor is expected after completion of land acquisition and statutory approvals. The Proposed Regional Ring Road Hyderabad is set to connect crucial national highways, including NH-44, NH-65, NH-163, and NH-765.
Land Acquisition Status
The Hyderabad Regional Ring Road Land Acquisition is progressing for the Northern Corridor, while the Southern Corridor remains in DPR and planning stages. The boundary of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region has been adjusted to accommodate the Regional Ring Road Telangana alignment, bringing it under HMDA planning.
Expected Completion Date
The Hyderabad Regional Ring Road Completion Date is currently to be announced after package awards and construction commencement. Phased development is subject to land acquisition, statutory clearances, and NHAI schedules.

According to the Hyderabad RRR Latest News, the project has received in-principle approval and is being developed in phases. The Northern Corridor is prioritized for bidding once land acquisition is substantially complete.
The Proposed Regional Ring Road Hyderabad is currently in the Planning & Land Acquisition stage for its Northern Corridor, while the Southern Corridor is in the pre-tender/DPR stage.
The Hyderabad Regional Ring Road, commonly called Hyderabad RRR, is a planned access-controlled regional expressway around Hyderabad, located beyond the existing Outer Ring Road. It is intended to improve inter-city and regional freight connectivity, divert through traffic away from the metropolitan core and connect major highways and regional growth centres around Hyderabad.
The RRR is planned in two broad corridors. The Northern Regional Ring Road runs from Sangareddy through the Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri/Bhongir and Choutuppal region. The Southern corridor is planned from Choutuppal through the southern and western parts of the Hyderabad region toward Sangareddy. The northern and southern sections have different approval and implementation stages.
The latest RRR map should be read separately for the Northern and Southern corridors because their implementation status is different. HMDA has published a proposed 100-metre-wide Regional Ring Road alignment, while the Northern section has a more advanced notified highway alignment as NH-161AA. The Southern alignment has undergone revisions and should be checked against the latest government-approved alignment rather than relying on older property-marketing maps.
The Hyderabad Regional Ring Road map is available through official government planning documentation, including HMDA's published proposed RRR alignment. For land or property decisions, an official HMDA, NHAI or government alignment document should be preferred over third-party RRR map PDFs because the alignment and land-acquisition boundaries can change during project development.
The overall RRR is commonly described as roughly 340 km, but the precise length depends on the alignment and scope used for the northern and southern corridors. The latest government-linked documentation gives the Northern Regional Ring Road a design length of 161.518 km. Older sources quote approximately 158 km, while broader planning documents have used different totals for the complete ring.
The cost depends on which section is being discussed. The latest reported proposal for the 161.518 km Northern Regional Ring Road is approximately ₹23,935.6 crore under the Hybrid Annuity Model. Older estimates of around ₹9,500 crore for the northern section should not be treated as the current sanctioned or proposed project cost.
The Hyderabad RRR does not have one uniform status. The Northern section is considerably more advanced, with land acquisition and highway tendering progressing under NHAI, but tendering has faced repeated extensions. The Southern section remains at a substantially earlier stage involving alignment, DPR and approval processes. Therefore, the entire RRR should not currently be described as fully under construction.
A major 2026 development is the continued delay in awarding construction contracts for the Northern RRR. NHAI extended the tender deadline for the 161.518 km Sangareddy–Choutuppal section for the sixth time in August 2026. The latest government-linked proposal puts the Northern section's capital cost at about ₹23,935.6 crore. The Southern corridor is progressing separately through its alignment and DPR process.
Not as one continuous project. The Northern RRR has progressed through land acquisition, statutory processes and tendering, but the latest 2026 reports show that the main NHAI construction tender process has faced delays. The Southern RRR is at an earlier planning and DPR stage. Claims that the entire 340-km RRR is already under construction are therefore misleading.
The Northern RRR, designated NH-161AA, runs from the Sangareddy side in western Telangana toward Choutuppal in the east. Major regional nodes along the corridor include Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, the Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri/Bhongir region and Choutuppal. Its latest design length is 161.518 km.
The RRR is intended to connect major regional centres around Hyderabad rather than serve only the city itself. The Northern corridor includes Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri/Bhongir and Choutuppal. The Southern corridor is planned through areas including Ibrahimpatnam, Kandukur, Amangal, Chevella and the Sangareddy side, subject to the latest approved alignment.
The Southern RRR is the proposed second half of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road, connecting Choutuppal around the southern and western side of the Hyderabad metropolitan region toward Sangareddy. It has been subject to alignment revisions and remains less advanced than the Northern corridor, so older maps and fixed village lists should not be treated as the final alignment without checking the latest government documentation.
The Hyderabad Outer Ring Road is the existing orbital expressway immediately around the Hyderabad metropolitan area, while the Regional Ring Road is planned much farther outside the ORR to serve regional and inter-city traffic. The RRR is intended to connect surrounding towns and major highways and reduce the need for through traffic to enter the existing metropolitan road network.
The RRR is intended to improve regional freight and passenger connectivity, provide an alternative route for long-distance traffic, connect major national and state highways and support development beyond Hyderabad's existing urban boundary. It is also intended to reduce pressure on the existing ORR and roads within the metropolitan area.
There is currently no reliable single completion date for the entire Hyderabad RRR. The Northern section is still progressing through tendering and implementation steps, while the Southern section is at a substantially earlier planning stage. Any website claiming a firm opening date for the complete RRR should be treated cautiously unless supported by a current NHAI or government announcement.
The master plan envisages a large regional orbital corridor outside Hyderabad's existing ORR, divided broadly into Northern and Southern sections. The road is intended to be access-controlled and connect major highways and regional centres around the metropolitan area. Because the Southern alignment has evolved during planning, the latest HMDA and NHAI documents should be used for the current master-plan alignment.
The RRR is being implemented in separate sections rather than as one simultaneous construction project. The Northern 161.518 km section is being taken forward by NHAI as NH-161AA, with land acquisition and tendering forming the current implementation steps. The Southern corridor requires further project-development, approval and financial processes before full-scale construction can proceed.
