Thane Creek Bridge Project: Gaimukh Paygaon Bridge
The proposed Gaimukh Paygaon Bridge is a vital future addition to the broader Thane Creek Bridge Project network. Thane Creek acts as a major natural barrier separating Thane, Mumbai, and Navi Mumbai from the mainland logistics corridors of Bhiwandi and Kalyan. By constructing an indicative 1.5 km creek crossing structure from Gaimukh on Ghodbunder Road to Paygaon, this project establishes a direct northern transit bypass over the creek.
Unlike southern creek crossings such as the Vashi Creek Bridge (Sion-Panvel Highway) or the Airoli Bridge, which connect central Mumbai and Thane to Navi Mumbai, the Gaimukh-Paygaon link connects northern Thane directly with the Bhiwandi logistics hub. This proposed integration allows heavy commercial vehicles to bypass dense municipal zones entirely, routing transit freight straight onto the upcoming Virar–Alibaug Multimodal Corridor and Bhiwandi regional highways.
