The Konkan Expressway is proposed to improve connectivity across major districts of Maharashtra's Konkan region while providing a faster Mumbai–Goa travel corridor.
कोकण एक्सप्रेसवे महाराष्ट्र के मुंबई और गोवा को जोड़ने वाला प्रस्तावित ग्रीनफील्ड एक्सप्रेसवे कॉरिडोर है।
The Konkan Expressway is a proposed six-lane, access-controlled greenfield expressway being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). It is planned to provide a high-speed connection along Maharashtra's Konkan region between the Panvel area and the Maharashtra-Goa border at Patradevi.
The latest reported route runs from Shahbaj/Chirle in the Panvel region of Raigad district southward through the Konkan region to Patradevi on the Maharashtra-Goa border. The corridor passes through Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts and is planned to connect with the wider regional expressway network.
The northern end is planned near Shahbaj in the Panvel area, with connectivity to the Virar-Alibag Multimodal Corridor. The southern end is at Patradevi on the Maharashtra-Goa border. The exact northern connection terminology varies between earlier and revised project documents.
The revised alignment is approximately 389 km long and passes through Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. MSRDC has been reworking parts of the alignment to address Western Ghats Eco-Sensitive Zone constraints, so detailed village-level alignment should be taken from the latest approved project documents rather than older route maps.
The revised mainline length is approximately 389 km. Earlier project documents referred to about 376 km, but the revised Detailed Project Report increased the mainline scope to approximately 389 km. Additional connecting and spur roads are separate from the mainline length.
The Konkan Expressway map covers the planned Panvel/Shahbaj–Patradevi corridor through Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. Because the alignment has been revised in response to environmental constraints, the latest MSRDC alignment should be used for an accurate project map rather than older 376 km route maps.
Earlier project documents and reports cited an estimated cost of about ₹68,720 crore, including land acquisition. However, the revised project cost should be treated cautiously because the alignment and environmental-clearance process have evolved, and a newer final sanctioned project cost has not been clearly established in the latest publicly available records.
Full-scale construction has not started. The project remains in the pre-construction stage, with the revised DPR prepared and environmental and alignment-related approvals still affecting implementation. Construction contractors for the main expressway have not been established as a completed award.
The Konkan Expressway remains a proposed MSRDC greenfield project in the pre-construction stage. The revised DPR was prepared with an approximately 389 km alignment, while environmental clearance and alignment finalisation remain important steps before full-scale construction can proceed.
Recent project information continues to place the Konkan Expressway in the pre-construction stage. MSRDC's revised DPR and environmental-clearance process remain central to the project, while parts of the alignment have been reviewed to address Western Ghats Eco-Sensitive Zone constraints. No reliable full-project construction start or completion date has been established.
The proposed Konkan Expressway passes through three Maharashtra districts: Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. The project is planned as a major north-south access-controlled corridor along the Konkan region.
The northern end is planned to connect with the Virar-Alibag Multimodal Corridor, while the southern end reaches Patradevi at the Maharashtra-Goa border. The expressway is also intended to complement NH-66 and improve high-speed connectivity between the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Konkan and Goa.
