Yes, joint measurement surveys and initial land acquisition activities have commenced in Nagpur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is the implementing agency.
The corridor passes through Nagpur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts of Maharashtra.
It will reduce travel time between Nagpur and Gondia from over 3 hours to approximately 75 minutes.
The estimated cost of the project is around ₹7,300 crore.
Construction is expected to start after land acquisition is completed and contractors are selected.
It is a planned 162.6 km access-controlled greenfield expressway in eastern Maharashtra extending the Samruddhi Mahamarg.
The Nagpur–Gondia Expressway is an access-controlled Super Communication Expressway planned by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to provide a high-speed connection between Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia in eastern Maharashtra. The project is planned as an extension of the Samruddhi Mahamarg network toward Gondia.
The main Nagpur Gondia Expressway route runs from Gavasi/Manapur in Nagpur district through the Bhandara region toward Gondia. The approved project also includes a Tiroda connector and a Gondia bypass, creating a broader corridor connecting Nagpur with the Gondia region.
The main alignment runs from approximately km 0.000 at Gavasi in Nagpur district to km 144.807 near Lodhi Tola in Gondia district. The project scope also includes a 3.826 km Tiroda feeder route and a 13.745 km Gondia bypass. With these associated links, the current project scope is about 162.377 km.
The Nagpur Gondia Expressway map should show the main Gavasi–Gondia alignment through Nagpur and Bhandara districts, together with the Tiroda connector and Gondia bypass. The latest MSRDC and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board project documents should be used for detailed alignment and village-level mapping.
The current overall project scope is approximately 162.377 km, comprising about 144.807 km of main alignment, a 3.826 km Tiroda connector and a 13.745 km Gondia bypass. Older project references sometimes quote about 127 km because they excluded some of these associated links.
The latest reported overall project cost is approximately ₹21,670 crore. In addition, the Maharashtra government approved a ₹3,162.18 crore government guarantee for MSRDC borrowing to fund land acquisition and related works; this ₹3,162.18 crore amount is not the total expressway project cost.
The Nagpur Gondia corridor is planned as an access-controlled Super Communication Expressway. Project documents and MSRDC planning material describe the corridor as a four-lane expressway, with the detailed construction package specifications defining the individual EPC works.
Full-scale construction had not been established as completed or operational by September 2026. MSRDC had previously invited EPC bids for multiple construction packages, while environmental public-hearing and land-acquisition processes continued. The Maharashtra government subsequently approved the broader project for implementation and fast-tracked land acquisition.
The project is in the implementation and pre-construction stage, with land acquisition being a major ongoing activity. The Maharashtra government approved the 162.377 km project in 2025 and further cleared the broader Vidarbha highway programme in 2026. The current target reported for the approved Nagpur Gondia corridor is completion by late 2028.
The latest major development came in May 2026, when Maharashtra approved four major Vidarbha highway projects, including the 162.377 km Nagpur–Gondia Expressway. The projects have a combined overall project cost of ₹51,906 crore, with the Nagpur–Gondia corridor targeted for completion between September and December 2028. In July 2026, the state also approved a ₹3,162.18 crore government guarantee for MSRDC borrowing for Nagpur–Gondia land acquisition.
The Nagpur Gondia Expressway connects Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia districts. The corridor is intended to improve access between Nagpur and eastern Vidarbha and provide onward connectivity toward Gondia and the wider eastern Maharashtra region.
The approved project includes major access points around Gavasi, Pachgaon, Thana, Rotary, Panjra, Paldongri, Lohri and Sawari. These interchanges are intended to connect the expressway with surrounding towns, highways and regional roads.
The Nagpur Gondia Expressway is planned as an eastern extension of the connectivity provided by the Samruddhi Mahamarg. Its western end near Nagpur connects the corridor into the wider expressway and highway network, allowing traffic from eastern Vidarbha to access Nagpur and onward routes toward Mumbai.
The project is intended to substantially reduce travel time between Nagpur and Gondia by replacing slower existing highway movement with an access-controlled high-speed corridor. Maharashtra government project announcements have indicated a target of reducing the journey from more than three hours to around one hour and 15 minutes after completion.
