Frequently Asked Questions
The Shaktipeeth Expressway, officially the Nagpur–Goa Maharashtra Shaktipeeth Expressway, is a proposed access-controlled greenfield expressway being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). The revised project will connect Pavnar in Wardha district with Patradevi on the Maharashtra–Goa border.
The revised route runs from Pavnar near Wardha through the Vidarbha, Marathwada and western Maharashtra regions to Patradevi in Sindhudurg near the Maharashtra–Goa border. Following the April 2026 revision, the corridor passes through 13 districts and includes Satara, which was added to the earlier alignment.
The current alignment was revised and approved on 1 April 2026. Several sections were changed in Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Dharashiv, Solapur, Sangli, Kolhapur and Sindhudurg, while Satara was added to the corridor. The Western Ghats crossing was also redesigned from the earlier proposed single 21 km tunnel into six separate tunnels.
The current Shaktipeeth Expressway map should follow the revised Pavnar–Patradevi alignment approved in April 2026. Because the route changed substantially from the earlier proposal, older maps showing the 802.592 km alignment should not be treated as the current route map.
The revised Shaktipeeth Expressway is approximately 856.765 km long. The earlier alignment was 802.592 km, making the revised corridor about 54.173 km longer following the approved route changes and the addition of Satara.
The revised Shaktipeeth Expressway is estimated to cost approximately ₹1.01 lakh crore. The earlier project estimate was around ₹80,000 crore. The increase reflects the revised and longer alignment, additional project requirements and changes to the Western Ghats section.
The revised Shaktipeeth Expressway passes through 13 districts of Maharashtra across the Vidarbha, Marathwada and western Maharashtra regions. Satara was added to the revised corridor, while several portions of the earlier alignment in Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Dharashiv, Solapur, Sangli, Kolhapur and Sindhudurg were modified.
The April 2026 revision increased the planned length from 802.592 km to 856.765 km and added Satara district. Several route sections were modified following local alignment demands and objections. The Western Ghats crossing was also changed from one proposed 21 km tunnel to six separate tunnels.
The Shaktipeeth Expressway is not yet under full-scale civil construction. The project is progressing through land acquisition, joint measurement surveys, environmental and forest clearances, statutory permissions, DPR finalisation and tendering. Construction is planned to proceed in phases after the required implementation preparations and approvals are completed.
Land-acquisition activities are progressing along the revised Pavnar–Patradevi corridor. Joint measurement surveys and related acquisition procedures are being undertaken across the affected districts following approval of the revised alignment. The acquisition process is one of the key steps that must progress before full-scale construction can begin.
No firm project-wide construction start date has been officially established. The Maharashtra government has indicated that construction will begin in phases after land acquisition, environmental and forest clearances, statutory permissions, DPR finalisation and tendering have progressed sufficiently.
The major recent development is the revised alignment approved on 1 April 2026. The revised project is approximately 856.765 km long, passes through 13 districts, adds Satara to the corridor and replaces the earlier proposed single 21 km Western Ghats tunnel with six separate tunnels. Land-acquisition and statutory-clearance activities are now progressing for implementation of the revised route.
Yes. The Maharashtra government approved a revised Shaktipeeth Expressway alignment on 1 April 2026. The revision increased the corridor length from 802.592 km to approximately 856.765 km, added Satara district, modified several district-level sections and redesigned the Western Ghats crossing.
The alignment was revised following route-related demands and objections in several areas. The approved revision modified sections across multiple districts, added Satara and changed the Western Ghats crossing arrangement. These changes resulted in a longer corridor and a revised project configuration compared with the earlier 802.592 km proposal.
