Kanpur Metro Rail is a modern mass rapid transit system serving the industrial and academic metropolis of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Implemented by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), a 50:50 joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the 32.385 km Phase 1 network comprises two key corridors connecting premier universities, medical centers, railway terminals, and dense residential suburbs.
Kanpur Metro Phase 1 Corridors
Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), a 50:50 joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, is implementing the 32.385 km Kanpur Metro Phase 1 network across two high-density corridors:
Line 1 / Corridor 1 (Orange Line): IIT Kanpur to Naubasta (23.785 km, 21 Stations: 14 Elevated + 7 Underground)
North-South trunk arterial corridor linking the premier academic hub of IIT Kanpur with the southern residential hub of Naubasta. Passenger services operate across 15.0 km and 14 stations from IIT Kanpur to Kanpur Central (IIT Kanpur, Kalyanpur, SPM Hospital, Vishwavidyalaya, Gurudev Chauraha, Geeta Nagar, Rawatpur, LLR Hospital, Moti Jheel, Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central). The remaining section to Naubasta (including Jhakarkati Bus Terminal, Transport Nagar, Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Baudh Nagar, and Naubasta) has completed statutory CMRS safety inspection and is awaiting commencement of passenger services.
Line 2 / Corridor 2 (Blue Line): CSA Agriculture University to Barra-8 (8.60 km, 8 Stations: 5 Elevated + 3 Underground)
East-West connectivity corridor connecting Chandra Shekhar Azad (CSA) Agriculture University to Barra-8 across 8 stations (3 underground: CSA Agriculture University, Rawatpur future interchange, Kakadeo; and 5 elevated: Double Pulia, Vijay Nagar, Shastri Chowk, Barra-7, Barra-8). Currently under active construction.
