The Jhansi Link Expressway is a proposed greenfield, access-controlled six-lane expressway in Uttar Pradesh, expandable to eight lanes. It is being developed by UPEIDA to provide a direct high-speed connection between the Bundelkhand Expressway and the Jhansi region, including the Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BIDA) area and Defence Corridor.
The Jhansi Link Expressway route begins near Phulpura in Jalaun district, connecting to the Bundelkhand Expressway at about km 170+300, and runs toward the Jhansi region, terminating near Ambabai on NH-44 at the BIDA boundary. The corridor passes through the Garौठा, Tahrauli, Moth and Jhansi Sadar areas.
The Jhansi Link Expressway alignment connects the Bundelkhand Expressway with the NH-44/BIDA side near Ambabai. UPEIDA has finalised the project alignment, while detailed package and land-acquisition documents provide the more precise route. The construction tender defines the project from km 0.00 at the Bundelkhand Expressway connection to km 106.30 near Ambabai.
The current UPEIDA construction tender defines the Jhansi Link Expressway as 106.30 km long. It is divided into two EPC packages: Package I from km 0 to km 50 and Package II from km 50 to km 106.30.
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved an estimated project cost of ₹7,968.30 crore in August 2026. Earlier UPEIDA tender documents placed the two civil construction packages at a combined estimated cost of about ₹5,001.74 crore, so the ₹7,968.30 crore figure should be used as the current overall approved project cost rather than the earlier construction-package estimate.
The construction is divided into two EPC packages. Package I covers km 0 to km 50, while Package II covers km 50 to km 106.30. Both are designed as six-lane greenfield expressway works with provision for future expansion to eight lanes.
Full-scale construction had not started as of September 2026. UPEIDA invited EPC bids for both construction packages, with bids opened in September 2026, while the Authority Engineer procurement was also being processed. The project therefore remains in the tendering and implementation-preparation stage.
The project has received Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approval and moved into the implementation stage. UPEIDA has already tendered both EPC construction packages, and bids were opened in September 2026. Construction contracts had not yet been awarded, so the expressway was not under full construction or operational.
The latest major development is the August 2026 Cabinet approval of the project with an estimated overall cost of ₹7,968.30 crore. UPEIDA subsequently advanced the two EPC packages covering the full 106.30 km alignment, with Package I and Package II bids opened in September 2026.
The expressway is planned to improve connectivity between the Bundelkhand Expressway and Jhansi, while providing direct road access to the BIDA area and the Defence Corridor. It will also strengthen connections from the Jhansi region toward the wider Bundelkhand Expressway network and major destinations connected through it.
