Pune–Shirur Elevated Corridor: Phase 1 of the MSIDC Pune–Sambhajinagar Expressway
The Pune Shirur Road Project (officially the Pune–Shirur Elevated Corridor) is Phase 1 of the MSIDC Pune–Sambhajinagar Expressway corridor. This ~53 km elevated expressway on the congested Nagar Road is the most advanced phase — MSIDC awarded the ₹7,300 crore contract to Welspun Enterprises on 30 April 2026. Mobilisation and implementation planning are currently underway.

Pune–Shirur Greenfield Expressway
Parallel future alignmentThe Pune Shirur Corridor forms the first phase of the broader Pune–Sambhajinagar Expressway program. MSIDC's plan connects Pune → Shirur → Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar via three phases. Phase 1 (this page) handles the critical Pune–Shirur stretch as an elevated corridor, removing the worst Nagar Road bottleneck. Phase 2 is proposed to continue from Shirur to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar as a greenfield expressway. Phase 3 is a long-term parallel greenfield alignment for the Pune–Shirur stretch.
Why the Pune–Shirur Elevated Corridor Is Being Built
The Pune Shirur Highway corridor currently experiences severe congestion, particularly between Pune, Wagholi and Shirur.
The Problem — Nagar Road Today
- ✗Pune to Shirur takes 3–4 hours during peak hours on existing Nagar Road
- ✗Shirur town bottleneck creates severe congestion daily
- ✗Mixed urban, inter-city and freight traffic shares the same 2-lane corridor
- ✗NH-60 (Nagar Road) overloaded with no grade separation at intersections
- ✗Slowest stretch in the entire Pune–Sambhajinagar corridor
- ✗Industrial and logistics traffic choked by city traffic signals
The Solution — Elevated Corridor
- ✓Elevated structure flies over existing Nagar Road, eliminating signal stops
- ✓120 km/h design speed vs. ~40 km/h existing road
- ✓Travel times expected to reduce significantly, with savings of up to 45 minutes to over an hour depending on traffic conditions
- ✓Access-controlled: entry/exit only at designated interchanges
- ✓Separates inter-city and freight traffic from local city traffic
- ✓First step towards the full 3-hour Pune–Sambhajinagar corridor target
Key Features & Project Details
Elevated Structure
Fully elevated alignment on the Nagar Road corridor, eliminating at-grade intersections and signal stops.
Access-Controlled
No at-grade cross-traffic. Entry and exit only at designated interchanges.
120 km/h Design Speed
