MMR Metro Expansion Projects

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and CIDCO are constructing a comprehensive 337.1 km master-plan grid and regional rapid transit network to overhaul public transit across Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mira-Bhayander:

Line 2B (DN Nagar to Mandale)

A 23.64 km elevated corridor improving East-West suburb linkages and connecting to the Mandale maintenance depot.

Line 3 Phase 2 (BKC to Cuffe Parade)

Completing the core underground transit line through central business districts like Nariman Point, Fort, and Worli.

Line 4 & 4A (Wadala to Gaimukh)

A 35.2 km elevated transit corridor connecting Eastern Mumbai to the dense nodes of Thane along LBS Marg and Ghodbunder Road.

Line 5 (Thane to Kalyan via Bhiwandi)

A 24.90 km elevated corridor bridging Thane city with the logistics hub of Bhiwandi and Kalyan.

Line 6 (JVLR Corridor)

A 15.31 km elevated corridor providing a crucial east-west link along the Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road.

Navi Mumbai Line 1 (CBD Belapur to Pendhar)

An 11.10 km fully operational elevated corridor connecting CBD Belapur, Kharghar, and Pendhar in Taloja.

2004

Master Plan Approval

MMRDA approved the master plan for a 146 km rapid transit grid across Mumbai.

2008

Line 1 Groundbreaking

Civil construction launched on Mumbai's first metro line (Versova–Andheri–Ghatkopar).

2014

Line 1 Opening

Line 1 (Blue Line) inaugurated for public service, bridging Eastern and Western suburbs.

2017

Underground Line 3 Launch
